| Photo: Dr. Jane and Jerry Katcher | La Fundación para la Iniciativa en Favor de la Primer Infancia, una organización que opera bajo la categoría 501 (c) (3), surgió a principios de 1999, materializando de este modo la idea y la inspiración de la Dra. Jane Katcher y de su esposo, el Sr. Jerry Katcher, y con gran apoyo de Jan y Daniel Lewis, todos de Miami. La fundación se constituyó para trabajar por la creación de una iniciativa en favor de la educación y el desarrollo de la primera infancia en el Condado de Miami-Dade, el mayor condado de la Florida (con una población mayor a la de 16 estados del país) y que cuenta con 2.3 millones de habitantes. La iniciativa apunta a "la preparación de todos los niños" es decir, poner a la disposición de 160,000 niños menores de 5 años de esta comunidad servicios de salud, educación y nutrición de alta calidad y a un precio razonable. Al hacerlo así, la iniciativa pone su esfuerzo en el crecimiento social, físico, emocional e intelectual de todos los niños de modo que estén listos y deseosos de tener éxito en el primer grado y, por ende, en la vida.
